HELLO!
My name is Patchwork Pagani!
I have been sewing since high-school, inspired by a close friend’s release of a drop-ship clothing line. Although I was supportive, I was driven with the idea that I could make cooler clothes with my own hands. That was false, I sucked.
I was super bad at all things fashion, which made it addicting, it was a whole new medium which brought my 2D drawings to a 3D physical form. I absolutely loved every aspect of garment construction but I left it as a hobby while getting a degree in Biology. I continued sewing through my studies, making pants for any final project I could twist to meet the prompt. (This is very difficult for STEM classes)
Through College I worked behind the scenes for other designers, pattern making and sample construction, in-between tutoring physics, not really focusing on my own lines or releases but slowly becoming more entrenched within the fashion world. I graduated college with a BS in Biology and absolutely no idea what to do next. Every option I saw was pure money grabs or another 15 years in academia, I was tired of papers, I really just wanted to sew. I stayed in this limbo until I met a local at my skatepark. He was a very kind guy but everyday I would see him with the same pair of ripped up pants, I asked him about it, he said it was his only pair as he lived behind the park, everything clicked.
I don’t know how to immediately help my community with science or biology at the moment, but I can fix up holes. I can make sure that at least the people in my community have the clothes on their back. Since then I have been working towards my goal of community oriented clothing with hope of continuing these repairs for people who need just a few more stitches to help. I love making clothes, but not clothes that just tell my story but the stories of the people, the experiences they have and the dreams they wish to reach.
From this I have continued my sewing journey and expanded from repairs, to street wear, high fashion, contemporary pieces, and home décor. (thas a lot) All with the hopes that the support I receive I can then spread to the communities that have helped me be me!
Thank you for reading,
Ruben (Patchwork Pagani)
